The nation’s mega-sports weekend had one clear-cut, decisive good news story, and that was our rugby team’s 38-3 hammering of South Africa on Saturday evening. Shane Horgan and Gerry Thornley remind us why we should actually be celebrating a win of that scale, even if the Springbok challenge was dreadful.

Exciting turns from Andrew Conway, Jacob Stockdale and Bundee Aki provided plenty of positives, and we even turn our attention to the possibility of two more decisive victories before November is through.

After winning their fourth Dublin title in five years, many people expected St Vincent’s to glide into the All-Ireland club semi-finals… but they reckoned without Wicklow champions Rathnew, who gleefully dumped the Dublin champs out yesterday afternoon – we talk to their captain Leighton Glynn.

Plus there’s the International Rules fixtures blunder, Laudrup the dreamboat, tiny tot Iain Henderson and why it’s always a good idea to give South Africa a good spanking.
