It says something about yesterday at Celtic that Martin O’Neill’s return as interim manager was only the third-most-sensational news item of the evening.

The second-most-sensational news was Brendan Rodgers’ resignation, after Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Hearts had left Celtic eight points off the SPL pace.

But the biggest bomba was the subsequent statement from major shareholder Dermot Desmond that tore into Rodgers’ allegedly dishonest and self-serving conduct during the closing months of his second stint as Celtic coach.
