The evenings are drawing in, temperatures are dropping and venturing out seems like an unnecessary evil. If only there was a book you could wile away the hours with… Well, lucky for you dear World Service member, the time has come for episode 5 of the ‘I’ll Tell You Who Wrote It’ Second Captains Book Club and boy do we have a doozy for you.

Brian Clough is one of the most fascinating figures in British sport in the last fifty years and a stalwart of Mark Horgan’s audio beds. While Clough has been the subject of a film and a couple of great books, the classic of the genre is Duncan Hamilton’s ‘Provided You Don’t Kiss Me’, winner of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award in 2007.

Hamilton had incredible access to Clough as a journalist covering Nottingham Forest for over twenty years, from the double European Cup-winning days through his alcohol-fuelled decline.

Joining us to review the book at one of our Gang’s All Here 2019 live shows at the Liberty Hall Theatre is former Clare captain and manager Anthony Daly.

As ever, this episode of our book club is in association with O’Mahony’s Booksellers in Limerick, and the book is available to pre-order at omahonys.ie for just €11.99 plus a €3 delivery fee to anywhere in Ireland.
