15-year-old Richie Sadlier was obsessed with Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle side and in particular their new young hot-shot striker Andy Cole. Little did young Richie realise that Andy would a few years later deny his Millwall side an FA Cup winner’s medal… and a few years after that agree to be a guest on Richie’s Player’s Chair podcast.

This chat isn’t about Cole the goalscorer, the treble winner, or the England international. It’s about a 49-year old’s struggle to adjust to having his life turned upside down over the past few years as a result of ill-health.

Andy speaks openly and candidly about his kidney transplant, the subsequent hit to his mental health, why he has always struggled to talk and to find good listeners, and why the armour he needed to be a top class footballer has hurt his ability to recover.
