King Henry Shefflin was this week announced as Galway manager and his loyal subject Ciaran Murphy is relieved it’s not Davy Fitz and explains why there are many reasons to be excited about Shefflin’s potential including his (short) CV, his hunger, his rivalry with Cody and the focus he showed to become the player he became.

Sweden are the second best team in the world, so not many people were holding out hope of a positive result in our first world cup qualifier in Tallaght Stadium last night, but a 1-0 loss for Vera Pauw’s team, with the sort of performance she says ‘will be enough to get us to a World Cup’, offered plenty to be upbeat about.

Record Irish caps holder Emma Byrne and ESPN’s Kathleen McNamee join us to talk about the pressure that’s building on this team, why results need to improve at the same rate performances are, and why the culture of bullying and sexual coercion uncovered in US soccer circles might be more prevalent than we feared.

There’s also manic intros, Eoin’s marathon excuses, and a very excited Frances Murphy’s TV Guide to the sporting weekend.
