As recently as January, Tipperary hurling legend Padraic Maher thought he’d be back on the pitch just as soon as an ankle niggle had been dealt with. A few weeks later, he was forced to accept that retirement was his only option after doctors identified a serious neck injury and recommended he stop all contact sport immediately.

Last week we spoke to six-time All Star and three-time All Ireland winner Paudie alongside our senior hurling analyst Jamie Wall at the Liberty Hall Theatre about learning to accept your time is up, how you get to that point mentally, how hurling drastically changed over the course of his career and Tipp’s prospects this year.
