Brian Cody was a hurling man to the end – announcing his retirement on Saturday afternoon, for fear the All-Ireland football final would be in danger of overshadowing the great game.

Jamie Wall and former Kilkenny All-Ireland winning captain Brian Hogan try and sum up a quarter-century of service to hurling, understand his aversion to any sort of intrusion into his own personal beliefs, question the timing given he had just made a final, look at who KK go for now, and place him in a wider sporting context.

Ken wonders if Cody will do a Tom Brady 180, and asks why this great Kilkennny man can’t be more like Alex Ferguson and boast to hedge fund billionaires in the off-season?

There’s also the worst sports book ever written, the Lionesses roaring into a European Cup final, and Shane Walsh’s “greatest performance on a losing side in an All-Ireland final” heroics.
