Serena Williams is evolving away from tennis, as she put it herself in Vogue Magazine last month, which everyone presumes means this is her last ever US Open. And she did the business in the first round on Monday night in front of a chaotic, raucous reception in New York.

Friend of the show, Caitlin Thompson of Racquet Magazine, talks to us about the secret trick behind Serena’s 1st round win, the schmaltz on show and how America has grappled with the idea of saying goodbye to a person they’ve been talking about for a quarter of a century.

Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, is having a fiendish time of it with Chelsea at the moment, to the extent that most of last night’s press conference after their 2-1 defeat at Southampton sounded like a Gary Neville impersonation.

Ken and Major League Marsch are on the same page – allow the stags to rut, sure, but the evil of time-wasting must be eradicated from our league.

Plus there’s tactical pockets, computerised games and flash Gordon.
