Newcastle secured Champions League football last night which prompted Alan Shearer to pen a letter of thanks to Eddie Howe, a letter which might be the most grovelling thing ever put to print.

That was absolutely not how Katie Taylor’s homecoming was supposed to turn out on Saturday night, but her defeat to Chantelle Cameron brooked no real argument. Gavan Casey of the42 was with us at the weigh-in on Friday, said Cameron would win, 96-94 on the judge’s scorecard – and today he takes no pleasure whatsoever in being proved so comprehensively right. We discuss why Katie won’t retire, where a mooted rematch will happen, and why Katie might still feel there’s reason to continue.

Plus there’s Phil Neville’s glazed eyes, big Irish Evan Ferguson and the weird but persistent presence of Conor McGregor at the Katie fight.
