“Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen” was released by Christopher McDougall in 2009, and it went on to sell 3 million copies, inspire a short-lived craze for barefoot distance running, and fundamentally change how many readers feel about endurance training.

It is the latest tome to come under the microscope of the I’ll Tell You Who Wrote It Second Captains book club, and we’ve gotten one of Ireland’s greatest ever athletes Ciara Mageean to review it for us.

And Ciara’s background as a trained physiotherapist comes in handy more than once as we delve into McDougall’s theories about running shoes, training loads, and even prehistoric man.
