The PGA Tour sent Rory McIlroy out to bat for its future countless times over the last 12 months, railing against LIV golf and the perfidious influence of Saudi Arabia in the sport.  Then he woke up yesterday and fielded a call from the PGA, where he was told that they were going into business with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

He spoke to the media at the RBC Canadian Open today, and so (with apologies for the delay while we waited for that press conference to happen) we hear from him, and from Lawrence Donegan of McKellar magazine and Gavin Cooney of the42 on one of the most extraordinary sports stories of this century.

Will the look of resignation on Rory’s face as he’s asked about his misgivings about accepting money from Saudi Arabia become the most symbolic moment in 21st century sport?
