Episode 2688: Ireland Roughed Up In Warm Up, Say It Ain’t So Hendo
The news from Brisbane is that the women’s national team have extended the proud Irish tradition of players getting injured in World Cup warm up matches against inappropriately fired-up opposition. Denise O’Sullivan’s World Cup participation depends on the result of a scan she has undergone after a shin injury suffered in the warm-up match against Colombia, which was abandoned at the insistence of the Irish management team after 20 minutes.
Saudi Arabia continues to set the football news agenda as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League.
Henderson’s apparent interest in the lucrative Saudi move has created an outcry as people remember that five minutes ago he was one of the game’s leading advocates for LGBTQ+ causes. We talk about Henderson’s decision and why it matters.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s World Cup build-up has been beset with difficulties, but at least we’re not the only ones. Oluwashina Okeleji joins us to talk about the situation with Ireland’s group opponents Nigeria, whose coach has spent the tournament build-up trading insults with the federation.

Thoroughly wholesome stuff today, even if there was just a bit too much M**th for any sane person to stomach. Bonus points for passing @saveciaranmurph on Grafton St at the exact point in the pod he was explaining how he was lifted over the turnstiles at the 1991 AI final https://t.co/yGphxMykRI
