Thomas Tuchel (who is from Germany) has today picked a squad of Englishmen who he hopes will lead that blighted nation to World domination in the Americas, in just a few weeks time. But the traditional English custom of ‘You’re Cut’ phone calls the night before the squad announcement has led to some early signs of a mutinous public.

Back on home soil the All-Ireland Hurling champions Tipperary are already out, but there’s still plenty to figure out on the last day of the provincial championships this Sunday… such as the possibility that Kilkenny could be joining them. They have to beat Dublin away, or hope Offaly lose to Kildare. Joe Canning and Jamie Wall consider this, and other, apocalyptic vistas.
