Is there a theory of why none of the six Premier League sides managed to win their Champions League knockout matches this week beyond “it’s March and they are tired”? We go in search of the answer.

Maybe the simple fact is that, as Liam Rosenior seemed to suggest, for all the Premier League’s money, the best players are elsewhere. Thierry Henry may not be correct that dribbling has disappeared from the game but it does look as though most of the really elite dribblers are not in the Premier League.

Sam Kunti joins us from Bulgaria where he is covering the European Leagues general assembly meeting to talk about Iran’s likely withdrawal from the World Cup, and what will come next. How are FIFA likely to respond? And has Gianni Infantino’s romancing of the US President created any political blowback within the organisation he leads?

We also pay tribute to Ronnie Delany, the boundlessly confident miler who won Ireland’s only ever Olympic track gold at the 1956 Melbourne Games.
