Naomi Osaka won her first round match at the French Open yesterday, but it was a statement she released in the days leading up to her appearance at the tournament that has grabbed the lion’s share of media attention this weekend.

Osaka announced that she wouldn’t be appearing at post-match press conferences during the tournament in order to protect her mental health, leading organisers to fine her $15k and threaten her with expulsion.
