Episode 3694: High On Penos, Carrick’s Back, The Spectre of Pep

Man City – Brighton went to penalties, Liverpool – Chelsea went to penalties, and Fleetwood – Arsenal went to penalties. Should we just skip the football and finish every cup game with a penalty shootout?

We chat to The Athletic’s Jon Mackenzie about his new book, The Spectre of Pep: How Guardiola Haunts Modern Football Tactics. Pep’s fingerprints are all over the modern game, but could the book have just as easily been called The Spectre of Klopp? Are football tactics cyclical? And where does the game go from here?

Plus there’s Man United’s route to the top 5 and “we’ve got your back, Carrick”.
