One ‘delicious dink’ from Abbie Larkin in the 90th minute of Ireland’s Nations League playoff second leg against Belgium last night and we’re back in League A, which makes the path to the next World Cup a hell of a lot easier, in what was a hell of a match.

The mood in the NBA was not so jubilant last week as, just two days into the new season, FBI director Kash Patel announced that the league was embroiled in not one but two betting scandals. The first is a Bond-esque caper allegedly involving the Mafia, x-ray poker tables, invisible ink, rigged shuffling machines and a handful of known NBA figures.

The second involves the alleged use of league insider information by gamblers to place bets on NBA games, and highlights the Pandora’s box of issues that have been unleashed on US sport since the Supreme Court ruled states could legalise sports betting in 2018. We chat to Defector staff writer Patrick Redford about the sweeping changes to the American sporting landscape in the last seven years.

Plus there’s Derek Davis comparisons, club final dual celebrations and what it means to be Irish.
