From London this morning came the news that Gianluca Vialli had passed away after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 58.

Vialli was a performer of style, charm and dignity whose appeal transcended club and national loyalties.

From his years of glory at Sampdoria alongside his football brother Roberto Mancini, via success at Juventus and Chelsea, to his triumph, again with Mancini, at the final of Euro 2020, he blazed an unforgettable trail.

Terry Daley joins us from Milan to reflect on Vialli’s transformative impact in the Premier League and on the football imagination of the young Terry, a Chelsea supporter conditioned by the mid-90s to think of his club as basically not very good.

Then we play Young Eoin and Young Ken’s interview with Vialli from February 2007. RIP Gianluca.
