Second Captains is 5

Five years ago this month we set up our little company Second Captains, with a song in our hearts and a spring in our step. We started producing podcasts with the Irish Times in May 2013. In September 2013, “Second Captains Live” debuted on RTE 2 television.

We did four years with the Irish Times. We did five seasons of our TV show. And now, for just over a year, we have the World Service; completely independent, member-led, commercial-free journalism driven only by our beloved listeners. Add in a few trips to San Francisco, New York, and London, two Second Captains sports annuals, three radio series, hundreds of listener emails, thousands of hours of shows, over thirty million podcast listens and you pretty much get the picture. Thanks to all our listeners, viewers and especially members for allowing it all to happen.

So we’re in the mood for celebrating. Watch and listen to some of the highlights of our first five years above, and then tune in to the Second Captains World Service throughout March for some special one-off interviews with interesting, talented, infuriating and admirable people with serious independent spirit. We’ll also be recording some live shows VERY close to where you are. Enjoy.
